Hank's Filling Station

One of my favorite things to do is to try new restaurants. I suppose you could say I am somewhat of a foodie, but after recently starting a healthier lowcarb lifestyle I have found it a bit harder to enjoy a variety of scrumptious foods without feeling a tad bit guilty or wasteful. I do however enjoy all the fats now, and whole foods!

So keeping this in mind I had set my sights on having BBQ. Upon a recommendation of a friend my other half and I decided to try Hank's Filling Station. After visiting I have to say, if your ever in the Norfolk, Virginia area and looking for a local place to relax, and enjoy some great food and beverage in an environment welcoming to all, check this place out!

I was delightfully surprised with the fun laidback atmosphere and of course the great selection of bourbons and rye available for order. Of course an extensive wine and beer list is also available for you non-whiskey lovers as well.

Indoor and outdoor backyard seating is available with bar access at both. All meats are smoked and aged in house and a good portion of their food is sources locally . The menu provides several vegetarian options as well as gluten free offerings. You may also be surprised to see all fried foods are cooked in an air fryer rather than a deep fat fryer!

During our visit we sampled the fried devil eggs, pulled pork totchos, and the giant Rueben sandwich. These were all great choices and very scrumptious. Hank's is a self service style restaurant so order your food, pick a seat and wait for your number to be called. Hint: perfect time to grab a drink as you may be waiting a bit.

So of course this wouldn't be a proper review if we didn't also sample the bar list. The bartenders were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. The typical cattle herding young buck trying to push drinks and make a dime was not found here! A few of the bourbons offered consisted of 1792, Bookers, Bakers, Old Forester 1920, Bowman Brothers, High West Campfire, Woodford Reserve, Blanton's, and even Pappy Van Winkle 12 year. (pending, check out their website for a complete list of offerings.). The restaurant also featured an extensive beer and wine list, with bottles available for purchase to go. The restaurant even offers designated drivers free coffee, tea, or soda so be sure to let your sever know!

Overall, we had an excellent experience at Hank's Filling station and will be sure to go back in the near future. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming to adults of all age groups. Hope you see you there!

We give Hank's 4 thumbs up review!

NOTE: Limited parking on sight, street side parking available at a walk.
